Capital District Physicians' Health Plan

Capital District Physicians' Health Plan, Inc. (CDPHP) has been serving New York state residents since 1984, when it was founded by local physicians in Albany, N.Y. as an independent, not-for-profit health plan with the stated mission of "providing quality health care at an affordable cost."CDPHP continues to be a physician-directed plan today. A 15-member board of directors, which includes eight physicians, governs CDPHP, and community doctors play a vital role in policy-setting and administration. CDPHP's practitioner network includes nearly 5,000 participating physicians and 3,000 mid-level practitioners.

The Challenge:

CDPHP previously had a data warehouse in place that was established in 2000. The warehouse loaded data from AMISYS, PCS and Medicaid pharmacy claims. While the data in the warehouse met CDPHP's business requirements for the majority of users, the lag time of when the data was moved from the sources to the warehouse did not meet CDPHP's business needs. The data in the warehouse was nine days old when the warehouse was first refreshed and the refresh process took approximately a week. With problems such as 9 day old data for analytical purposes, the length of the ETL process and supporting two instances of the warehouse database, CDPHP decided to recreate the warehouse environment to better serve their business needs cipants to view billing data in an effective and efficient manner and to establish a foundation for an enterprise-wide integrated Data Warehouse

The Solution:
