The New York State Education Department is one of the largest state agencies and conducts business with each of the 705 NYS school districts and 33 Boards of Cooperative Educational Services (BOCES).

The Challenge:

The Office of State Assessment required a more efficient means of tracking the various exams and competency tests that they develop for each student in the NYS school system. 

The Solution:

IS Consilium, Inc was contracted by New York State Education Department (NYSED) to develop a custom application of the State Assessment Tracking System (SATS). The overarching goal of the Office of State Assessment (OSA) is to ensure that a high-quality test is on each student’s desk on testing day.  In order to make this goal more easily attainable, the Board of Regents, the Commissioner and executive staff at SED identified a computerized project tracking system as a tool to ensure the quality of exams administered in NYS.  This application replaced current program operation and management functions and has become an integral part of OSA’s overall vision in a larger, ITS supported application development process. 

The tracking tool also gives OSA the ability to obtain the development status of a particular test.  While test teams currently track their particular tests with a variety of tools and formats, a single application consolidates information in one place.

This application is created utilizing the Oracle 9i tool set,  J-Developer and Java.
